Albert Martin Bezemek, age 93, of Necedah, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Sunday March 12, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tomah, WI.  Albert’s parents, Thomas and Rosalie Bezemek, immigrated from Bohemia to Chicago, Illinois, and Albert was born on May 7, 1923 in Chicago. In 1930 his parents moved to Necedah to farm, and Albert attended school there graduating in 1942.  While in school Albert excelled in basketball and football and liked to ride horses.  Albert was united in marriage for 60 years to the love of his life, Estelle Mae Dunn on November 7, 1947 in Chicago, IL.  Albert helped on the family farm and enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he loved working on cars, he later opened Al’s Garage in Necedah and operated it for over 20 years while also working full time as a dedicated nursing assistant for the Tomah Veterans Hospital for 33 years. 

Albert served his country in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 in the Red Bull 34th Division serving in Italy and in North Africa.  Albert is a recipient of the Purple Heart after being wounded 5 times during WWII.  Albert was very proud of his military family. His father served in the Spanish American War, brother Peter served in WWII in the U.S. Navy, brother Henry served in the Army during WWII, son Mike is a Vietnam Veteran, and son-in-law Edward Krupa is also a Vietnam Veteran.  Albert is a life member of the Necedah Chapter of the VFW, and of the Tomah Chapter of the DAV.  In 2011 Albert, along with his son Mike, were able to go on the Freedom Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

After his retirement, Albert enjoyed doing the “Meals on Wheels” in Necedah, and driving seniors to their appointments.  He also enjoyed playing the Push Button Accordion, and the Harmonica.  Albert was a lovely dancer to polkas and waltzes.

Albert is survived by his children; Mike (Sandy) Bezemek of Shady Point, OK.  Annette (Edward) Krupa of Nekoosa, WI. and Richard Bezemek of Warrens, WI.  by 4 granddaughters; Lori Bowe of Necedah, WI. Amy (Dave) Mayer of Necedah, WI.  Lisa Dahl of Necedah, WI, and Jessica (Greg) Koshollek of Neenah, WI. and by 11 great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Estelle in 2007, 2 brothers, Peter and Henry, 3 sisters, Marie Bezemek, Helen Stebbins, Antoinette Lysek, a granddaughter Michelle Marie Bezemek, and a grandson Alex John Krupa.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 16, 2017 at 11:30a.m. at the Hare Funeral Home (217 W. Pearl St.) New Lisbon, WI, with Fr. Ivan Torres presiding.  Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday at the Hare Funeral Home from 10:00a.m. until the time of service.  Burial with full Military Honors will be held in the Bay View Cemetery in Necedah, Wi.  Online condolences are available at www.harefuneralhome.com
