Elizabeth A. Schaefer, age 85, of New Lisbon died on Sunday February 12, 2017 at the Jewish Home and Care Center in Milwaukee, WI. Elizabeth was the daughter of Hamilton and Ione Barlow, and Lawrence and Edith Bartlett, and was born on November 10, 1931.
She graduated from Oconomowoc High School, in 1949, and then continued her education at UW Madison. After school, she was united in marriage to Wilbur Schaefer on June 28, 1952, in Pewaukee, WI, and then they moved to Waukesha. They later lived in Nashville, TN, Alexandria IN, and then moved back home to New Lisbon. Elizabeth would always ring a cowbell when it was time for dinner, and that was how her kids and the neighborhood knew it was time for them to get home and eat.
Elizabeth and Wilbur owned and operated Wa Du Shuda Canoe and Liquor from 1969 until 1975. They were both very involved with the Wa Du Shuda event. Elizabeth later worked as a hostess at Target Bluff Restaurant.
Elizabeth was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, an auxiliary member, a member of the ACT group in Tomah, WI, and an avid bridge player and bowler. She also enjoyed camping with husband, crossword puzzles, scrabble, and theatre acting.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Mark (Kristen), Sheri (Paul) Ketarkus, Larry (Kathy), Elizabeth (Joe) Kronschnbl, sisters, Beverly Mackey, and Pat (Bill) Kirk, grandchildren, Derek, Vanessa, Ashton, Elizabeth, Joseph, Madeline, Grace, Danielle, Maureen, Aidan, 9 great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by all four of her parents, and her husband Bill.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 11:00am, at the New Lisbon Community Center, in New Lisbon, WI.
