Frederick Gene Rabuck passed away on November 6, 2008. Fred was born July 21, 1927 in a house at 213 South Adams Street, New Lisbon, Wisconsin. His parents were the late Antoinette Dvorak Rabuck and Frederick A. Rabuck. Fred attended school in New Lisbon and graduated from High School in 1945. He was sworn into the United States Navy on June 14th, 1945 and was transferred to the Seabees boot camp in Camp Parks, California. He then served in Saipan and returned to the United States via the Panama Canal. He was discharged in August of 1946. Fred was a member of the American Legion for over 60 years and served as Commander of Post 110 in New Lisbon. Fred and Vohnie L. Roof, daughter of the late Timothy and Roselyn Roof of Tomah, were united in marriage on December 26, 1948. They were married for almost 60 years and had three children, Steven F. Rabuck, Sonia Rabuck Lee, and John R. Rabuck. Fred attended the University of Wisconsin extension in Mauston and the Juneau County Teachers College. While teaching school and serving as an elementary school principal he completed his education by attending night school and summer school at Whitewater University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Education in 1956. During this time Fred and Vohnie also owned and operated the Highway Cafe in New Lisbon. After a career in teaching and as a principal he sold educational materials for over twenty years, including materials from The Learning Tree, a company started by Fred and Vohnie in 1971. Fred was the inventor of the "Moon Orbit Demonstrator," which is still widely used in schools. In 1973 Fred obtained his realtor's license and he and Vohnie operated Rabuck Realty as well as Deerwood Ranch until they retired in 1989. Fred and Vohnie then traveled extensively. Fred was instrumental in documenting the history of New Lisbon and was honored by the New Lisbon Public Library for his contribution. Fred served on the New Lisbon Cemetery Board for 23 years and was president of the New Lisbon Promotional Organization. He was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church in New Lisbon. Fred especially loved his wife Vohnie, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to garden, fish, travel, plant trees, play cards, and have coffee with his buddies at the Corner Cafe. He was affectionately called "the tree man" because of the many trees he planted and cared for, and the "mad snapper" because of his habit of snapping pictures of family members at the most inopportune times. Fred had a great sense of humor, he loved life and lived it to the fullest. Fred is loved and respected by many and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife Vohnie Roof Rabuck of New Lisbon, Wisconsin, son Steven F. Rabuck of Camp Douglas, Wisconsin, daughter Sonia Rabuck (Larry) Lee of Milford, Texas, and son John R. Rabuck and Teresa of Preston, Minnesota; sisters, Betty Ann Rabuck Ide, Judith Rabuck (John) Thompson; half brothers Billy and Michael Rabuck (Anita); grandchildren Jason Rabuck (Jennifer), Tiffani LaJeunesse, Lori Ann Lee, Erin Lee Golden and husband David, Joshua W. Lee, Cody G. Rabuck, and Kade Howe; several great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Antoinette and Frederick Rabuck, and by his sisters, Diana Kling Nicholson and Barbara Rabuck Kraiss. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 10, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon, WI. followed by burial with military honors in the New Lisbon City Cemetery.
