Harlyn "Harley" Weiland Obituary

Harlyn “Harley” Weiland, 65, New Lisbon, passed away January 21, 2018, at home.  He was born November 17, 1952, in Reedsburg, Sauk County, the son of Robert and Naydean (Georgeson) Weiland.

Harley lived on the family farm in Kendall, Wisconsin, until the age of seven, then the family moved to New Lisbon where he graduated from New Lisbon High School in 1970. Early in his life he had a passion for stock car racing and built his own car at 15-years old, which was driven by his uncle Edwin “Sonny” Georgeson. Following his high school graduation, he entered into the police academy and subsequently served on both the Juneau County and New Lisbon police forces.  Harley was very proud of his city performing many civic duties for the community which included serving many years on the volunteer fire department, as an active EMT, and as a CPR instructor.

Following his service on the police force, Harley owned and operated several businesses throughout his lifetime including R&H Sports and was a school bus driver for the New Lisbon School District.  His automotive background allowed him to become the General Manager of Northwoods Truck Stop.  In the years following, Harley had a successful career as a Sales Consultant and as the Part’s Manager of Rudig-Jensen, from where he retired. Harley took immense pride in this position as it fueled his passion for being current with the ever-evolving automotive industry while allowing him to assist the community’s needs.  Outside of the professional setting, Harley would most likely be found enjoying the company of his cherished friends around a campfire, riding his ATV, or driving through the scenic backroads within the county. Harley was also a long-time member of both the New Lisbon and Kendall Sportsman’s Clubs and an avid hunter.  Furthermore, he was a faithful member of the St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Lisbon.

He will be sadly missed by his loving partner Marian (Martin) Fox of New Lisbon; daughter Marta (Steve) Bessler of Holmen; son Mitch (Lee) Weiland of Savannah, GA; grandchildren Patrick Weiland and Owen Weiland of Savannah, GA; brothers, Allen (Eva) Weiland, of Wisconsin Rapids and Richard Weiland (partner Julie Raymond) of New Lisbon; sisters, Diane (Glen) Mortensen of New Lisbon and Wanda (Bob) Shortridge of Brighton, CO; and eleven nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on February 9, 2018, at the St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Lisbon, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., with a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.  Rev. Matthew Kimmel presiding.  A celebration of life will also be held on February 10, 2018 at the Opera House in New Lisbon from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.   The Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon is assisting the family with services.  Online guestbook available at www.harefuneralhome.com
