Tilferd “Tilly” Bjerke, age 88 of New Lisbon, a beacon of joy and kindness, left us peacefully in Madison, WI., on February 16, 2024, enveloped by the love that he so generously spread throughout his life. Born in the heart of Iowa, Tilly’s spirit was as expansive as the Midwest skies under which he was raised. Tilly was united in marriage to Shelby Melvin on January 19th, 2002, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hustler.
Tilly did carpenter and construction work all his life, working for Wayne Bell for many years, and at Volk Field. Tilly joined the Army National Guard and served for 23 years.
Tilly’s journey was marked by an unwavering commitment to friendship and community. His infectious laughter and the warmth of his smile were a comfort to all who knew him. He lived his life with an open heart, embracing each day as a gift to be shared.
Tilly is survived by his wife Shelby of New Lisbon, their children; Cheri (Tom) Hopper, Wendy Clark, Kim (Russ), Teresa Clark, Peggy Baldwin, Becky Quinlan, Lisa Clark, Bobbi Jo, Dennis Bjerk, Mark Clark, Craig Bjerk, Robin Williamson, Scott Clark, Micheal (Melissa) Clark and Tammy Bjerke, 38 grandchildren, many great and great great grandchildren, a sister, Evelyn Halverson of Spring Grove, MN., brothers, Lyle Bjerke of Iowa, and Ron Bjerke of Spring Grove, MN, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Harold Bjerke.
As we bid farewell to Tilly, we celebrate the profound impact he had on those around him. His legacy will be cherished in the countless memories he created, the lives he touched, and the enduring love he leaves behind. Tilly’s story does not end here; it continues in every act of kindness inspired by his memory.
A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hustler Cemetery in Hustler, WI. followed by A Celebration of Life at the Hustle Inn (116 E Main St) in Hustler from 12:00pm – 3:00pm.
