Clara Rascon de Letona of Owatonna, MN passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday April 24th, 2020. Clara was born February 5th, 1925 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Miguel and Carmenita Rascon.

She studied accounting at the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City, and became a CPA. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to her beloved Julio Cesar Letona Sr. in 1946 and bore two sons, Miguel Angel Letona and Julio Cesar Letona Jr.

The family emigrated to California in 1975 and Clara was proud to officially become an American citizen in 1992.

Clara enjoyed time with her family and friends, but especially having a cup of coffee with her beloved husband Julio every morning. She and her friends enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas and playing the penny machines. She was an excellent cook and baker, often humming songs while she cooked. She handed on age-old recipes for folk Mexican dishes. She is remembered as always being hospitable to all who sat at her table, seeing to the needs of family and guests before her own. She always wanted to make sure that everyone had enough and enjoyed their meals. Her hobbies included sewing and quilting and sculpting wax flowers. She was adept at gardening and raising chiles, tomatoes, and zucchini. She had a knowledge of herbs for seasoning and as home remedies. The family moved to the Midwest from California in 2000. A family dream came true when she and some of her family took a trip to France and Italy and had the privilege of front row seats for Mass in St. Peter’s square and seeing Pope Francis in person.

A devout Catholic, she was faithful to the Holy Mass every Sunday and to saying her prayers every morning and evening. She taught the Catholic faith to her children and grandchildren. She had a strong devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, and her husband Julio Cesar Letona Sr. She is survived by her two sons Miguel Angel (Sylvia) Letona, and Julio Cesar (Cynthia) Letona Jr, four grandchildren Miguel Angel Jr., Julio Cesar III, Robert Michael, and Veronica Athena and several great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed but always loved and remembered.
