The family emigrated to California in 1975 and Clara was proud to officially become an American citizen in 1992.
Clara enjoyed time with her family and friends, but especially having a cup of coffee with her beloved husband Julio every morning. She and her friends enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas and playing the penny machines. She was an excellent cook and baker, often humming songs while she cooked. She handed on age-old recipes for folk Mexican dishes. She is remembered as always being hospitable to all who sat at her table, seeing to the needs of family and guests before her own. She was adept at gardening and raising chiles, tomatoes, and zucchini. She had a knowledge of herbs for seasoning and as home remedies. The family moved to the Midwest from California in 2000. A family dream came true when she and some of her family took a trip to France and Italy and had the privilege of front row seats for Mass in St. Peter’s square and seeing Pope Francis in person.
A devout Catholic, she was faithful to the Holy Mass every Sunday and to saying her prayers every morning and evening. She taught the Catholic faith to her children and grandchildren. She had a strong devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe.
