Dolores J. (Wheeler) Buchanan

Dolores Jean Buchanan, age 89, of New Lisbon formerly of Wisconsin Rapids, WI died on Thursday November 11, 2021, at the Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston WI. Dolores was the daughter of Harold and Opal (Welch) Wheeler and was born on May 9, 1932, in Mahomet, IL. Dolores was united in marriage to George E. Buchanan on February 11, 1950, in DeLand, IL and he preceded her in death.

Dolores and her husband had a paint store in Illinois before moving to Wisconsin Rapids, WI in 1968.  They then operated D & B Amusements at local area carnivals. She later worked at the high school for several years before going to the Nekoosa Paper Mill where she did clerical work in the shipping and receiving department for over 20 years.

Dolores loved to Square Dance, so much so they nicknamed her the “Dancin Dodo”. She liked Blue Grass music, she rode in the Orange Blossom Special to music festivals, baking and making homemade noodles, and cleaning house.

Dolores is survived by her children: Michael (Jackie) Buchanan of New Lisbon WI, Wyona Zimmerman of Wisconsin Rapids WI, George (Vickie) Buchanan of Wisconsin Rapids WI, Eric (Laurie) Buchanan of Cleveland TX, by 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, by 3 sisters Shirley (Bill) Rittenhouse of Farmer City IL, Francis (Dick) Reynolds of Farmer City IL and Elizabeth (Mike) Cleveland of Powell OH. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, and a sister and brother-in-law Patty and Warren Smothers and special friend Alex Powell.
