Eldon R. "Sandy" Sanders, age 85 of New Lisbon, WI. entered into eternal rest on the 17th of October, 2023, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Eldon was the son of Ingval and Muriel (Jorgensen) Sanders and was born on June 2, 1938, in Vienna, South Dakota.
Eldon was raised in Iowa, where he graduated from Davenport High School in 1956. Following his graduation, he served his country with pride and honor in the United States Marines. He was united in marriage with Shirley J. Phelps on September 1, 1957, in Iowa, the couple later divorced in 1983. He later met his best friend and love of his life Sandra "Sam", (Phillips) whom he married in 1984 in The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They spent 35 wonderful years together, she later preceded him in death.
Eldon was a dedicated father, grandfather, and brother. He leaves behind his son, Steven (Joanna) Sanders of Kenosha, WI, and his daughter, Susan (Scott) Terry of Grand Mound, IA. Eldon's love and guidance will also be missed by his grandchildren; Nathan Terry, Matthew Terry, Stephanie (Blake) Sims, Patrick Connell, Shauna Connell, Bernard Sanders, Marisha Ludwig, Michael Sanders, and Trine Sanders. He is also survived by his brother, Lyle (Kris) Kammer of Davenport, IA, and his best friend, Bud Rizner. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sandra in 2019, a brother Merlyn Sanders and a sister Lois Ploog.
Known for his friendly and kind demeanor, Eldon had a deep love for life and the people in it. He had a varied range of interests and hobbies, which included boating and riding motorcycles. He had a keen eye for Hummel figurines, amassing a collection that was a source of joy for him. A man of faith, Eldon was a regular at church and a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in New Lisbon. His friends were an important part of his life, and he enjoyed spending time with them.
Eldon R. "Sandy" Sanders lived a life characterized by kindness, a deep faith, and a love for his family and friends. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those he has left behind. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration.
There are no services being planned. The Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon is assisting the family with arrangements.
