Gary E. Hempel

Gary E. Hempel, 74, of Mauston, WI. passed away peacefully, Monday, July 16, 2018 at his home.  He was born on November 15, 1943, to Edwin and Ethel (Feindt) Hempel, in Chicago, Illinois. 

He attended Lane Technical High School and entered the U.S. Navy on October 26, 1962-October 24, 1966, serving as a hospital corpsman, 3rd class.  On June 6, 1964, he was united in marriage to Gayle L. Davison.

He was employed by Baxter Laboratories in Round Lake, Illinois and later worked for the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, as an adjudicator, in Milwaukee, WI until his retirement in 2006.

He enjoyed time with his wonderful family, watching and attending Wisconsin Badger football games, playing golf and attending major golf tournaments, traveling adventures, including Africa, and reading a good book.

He survived by his wife Gayle, daughters Sandra Hempel of West Bend, WI and Kimberly Reigard of Mauston, WI, grandchildren Mitchell Reigard and Emily Reigard, and other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11:00am at Bethany Lutheran Church (618 River St, New Lisbon, WI).  A visitation will be held on Monday, July 23, from 9:00am until the time of service at 11:00am at Bethany Lutheran Church in New Lisbon.  Rev. Wendy Ruetten presiding.  Inurnment will take place in the Plymouth Cemetery with Military Honors.  Memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church in New Lisbon.  The Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon is assisting the family with services.  Online guestbook available at www.harefuneralhome.com
