Jessica Dechant Obituary

Jessica Lee Dechant, at age 41 of Camp Douglas, WI, passed away on Saturday, January 13,2024. Jessica was born October 7, 1982 to Gary and Christi (Shepherd) Dechant. She attended St. Mary’s Elementary School, and graduated Tomah High School in 2002. Jess moved to sunny L.A. with dreams of becoming a “Hollywood California Girl”. She took various acting and dance classes and continued her study of the Liberal Arts at Moorpark College in Simi Valley, CA.

Jessi always took time to share smiles and hugs to family and friends. Jessica had strong convictions. She was passionate about keeping children safe, a Pro-Life advocate, and had a desire to be an organ and tissue donor. On Jan. 18, 2024, Jessica became that donor and saved lives. As a way of showing respect and gratitude, Gundersen LaCrosse Hospital staff recognized Jessica with an “Honor Walk”. There was also a “Donate Life” flag raised in her honor for three days. Jessica’s sisters, Brett and Laura wrote this letter that was read by the Madison Transplant Surgical Team so they could know who Jessica was:

Our Sweetest Beautiful Jessica

She was gifted in so many ways. A girl of the arts. Her dancing was so graceful, you could feel every emotion. The way she played piano was as if we were listening to Beethoven himself. She was a talented artist and loved to draw. She loved watching the Packers “Go Pack Go!” She had a love for animals and wanted to save them all. Her laugh was contagious and one of a kind. She had a dream of becoming a mother and gave all that love to her nieces and nephews.

Here are some memories her nieces and nephews wanted to share:

Zebulun (Age 7) I loved to play games with her (even though Jess would never let any of them cheat).

Dawson (Age 8) I loved to play Legos and I’m going to miss her.

Leland (Age 9) He is so saddened that he has no words. Their connection was one of a kind.

Brailyn(Age 12) I loved to color with her.

Alayna (Age 3) She is nonverbal but always took Jess’s hand and led her to the piano. Her sister Addisyn(Age 1) was right behind them.

Taye (Age 8) I loved that she came to watch me dance.

Leum (Age 11) One of my favorite parts of Auntie Jess was her laugh. He also said “Mom, she is like a hero. She will be saving all of those people, (referring to being an organ donor) And that will stay In Our Hearts Forever.

Jessica is survived by her parents Gary & Christi Dechant of Camp Douglas, a brother Zachariah Dechant of Camp Douglas, her sisters Brett (Erik) Gulbranson of Spring Grove, MN and Laura (Jacob) Wyss of New Lisbon, paternal grandparents Lawrence (Shirley) Dechant of Tomah, nieces and nephews, Brailyn, Leum, and Taye Gulbranson, Dawson, Alayna, and Addisyn Wyss, Leland and Zebulun Dechant, along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Stanley and Lee Shepherd and her paternal grandmother Patricia Dechant.
