Julie P. Craft, age 70, of New Lisbon died on Monday May 1, 2023, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI.  Julie was the daughter of Virgil C. and Vivian D. (Hagen) Mathison and was born October 2, 1952 in La Crosse, WI.  Julie was raised in the Coon Valley area and was a 1970 graduate of Westby High School and she later attended Viterbo College and then graduated from University of Tulsa with an RNBSN degree. Julie served in the U.S. Navy while in School.  She then moved back to Coon Valley in 1985.  Julie has been a nurse since 1975, she has worked for the Tomah Health Care Center, and did traveling for Home Health Care around the area.  Julie was united in marriage to Russell F. Craft Jr on April 16, 1992 in Baraboo, WI, and they briefly lived in Tennessee for a while, and they moved back to the Coon Valley area.  Russell preceded her in death in 2001, and she moved to New Lisbon in 2003 to present. 

Julie is survived by a daughter Gretchen (Stephen) Foster of Harrison, TN, 2 sons, Graham (Marfelia) Woods of Glenpool, OK, and Kyle Craft of Menomonie, WI, 2 sisters, Cheryl (Paul) Nelson of Sparta, WI, and Melanie (Donald) Role of Coon Valley, WI, grandchildren Vera, Jeriah and Jadon, and several nieces and nephews, her best friend Pat White, and her beloved dog Charlie.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Russell.

The Hare Funeral Home in New Lisbon is assisting the family with Julie’s cremation.  A private family gathering will take place at a later date.  The family asks that donations go to the American Legion or DAV.  online condolences are available at www.harefuneralhome.com
