Myrtle Machnik Obituary

Myrtle Rose Machnik, age 102, of New Lisbon died peacefully on Tuesday November 19, 2019 at the Crest View Nursing Home in New Lisbon.  Myrtle was the daughter of Oscar and Margaret (Smith) Hemenway and was born on October 30, 1917 in Backus, MN.  When Myrtle was a child her family moved to the New Lisbon area.  Myrtle was a 1935 graduate of the New Lisbon High School and later attended the Juneau County Teachers College and received her teaching degree for all grades.  Myrtle taught in Black River Falls, Necedah, Beaver Dam, and Wauwatosa, along with others.

Myrtle was united in marriage to Frank J. Machnik on August 27, 1955 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in New Lisbon.  To this union 2 children were born, Michael and Thomas.  Myrtle was very active in St. Paul’s Catholic Church in her younger years.  She enjoyed doing baking for all the church festivities and dinners. Myrtle was a member of St. Ann’s Altar Society and also of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Myrtle is survived by her husband Frank of New Lisbon, sons Mike of New Lisbon and Tom of Middleton WI, grandchildren Matt Machnik of Menomonie WI, Eric (Samantha) Machnik of Fond du Lac WI, great grandchildren Sawyer Hefti-Machnic of Menomonie WI, and Eric Machnic Jr. of Milwaukee WI and Camryn Machnik of Milwaukee WI, and Emma and Bianca of Fond du Lac WI, along with other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wayne and Leonard, and sisters Dorothy and Francis.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday November 23, 2019 at 11:00a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church (408 W River St.) in New Lisbon, with Rev Robert Letona will presiding.  Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at the church on Saturday from 10:00a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will be in St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery.  The Hare Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.  Online condolences are available at www.harefuneralhome.com
